Rousanne and Grenache Blanc grown on shale/granite soils; and Chenin grown on sandstone/shale soils. Echalas and trellised vineyards.
The vision was to produce a great white Rhône style blend from the Breedekloof. The Roussanne (56%) and Grenache Blanc (35%) dominate the aromatics of the nose and palate of this wine. The Chenin Blanc (9%) adds layers of fruit and contributes to the complexity. The grapes were separately whole bunch pressed to ensure elegant extraction. Natural fermentation took place in
seasoned 500 litre French oak barrels adding layers of complexity. The blended wine was aged for 10 months on its lees, with some bâtonnage contributing to the freshness and complexity of the wine. Ageing took place in French oak of which 10% was new.

Platter’s: Blanc 2017, ****(*) 94/100
Generous 2017, mostly roussanne, grenache blanc, splash chenin, reflective of sunny climes, the dried fruit medley rich & concentrated, structure broad, textured & dry, the memory long; a poised, distinctive whole. 500L French/Hungarian oak ferment, 9% new.
Robert Parker 89+/100
A blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Chenin Blanc, the 2017 Blanc has aromas of stone fruit on the nose with subtle wafts of dusty flowers, apple-pear nuances and touches of oak spices. Medium-bodied, the palate is fresh and vibrant, showing a weighty and slightly waxy balanced structure, then delivers a kiss of phenolic bitterness on the finish, making this a texturally ingressing and food-friendly wine. I like it!
