The grapes come from a 10 year old trellised vineyard on the lower part of the farm. The soil is mainly sandstone layered with a clay-shale which adds a unique element to this heritage varietal.
Grapes are whole bunch pressed to ensure elegant extraction. Natural and inoculated fermentation took place in 500L French (10% new) and Hungarian (10% new) oak barrels. Part of the wine was also fermented in a French oak foudre. The wine was aged for 10 months on the lees contributing to the richness and texture of the wine.

Assertively Chenin Blanc with whacks of cantaloupe, pear, citrus plus a whole mountainside of fynbos to make this wine very seductive and interesting.
Platter’s: Lark Chenin Blanc 2017, ****
Honours the owners (their Dutch surname translates as ‘lark’), 2017 elegant & harmonious, like the bird’s song, gentle creaminess from lees-ageing complemented by trill of spice adding energy to the pure flavours. Oaked, 20% new.
Robert Parker 87/100
The 2017 Lark Chenin Blanc has a cheerful nose with fresh tropical fruit mixed with white peaches, apple core and soft notes of citrus blossom that spring to life. Medium-bodied in the mouth, the wine is slightly shy but still is clean and correct, showing a soft pan-seared almond flavor across the mid-palate. The wine ends with pleasing notes of melon, pineapple husk and Meyer lemon on the food-friendly and lingering finish.
