Vibrant 2018 ups the quality on 2017 (92 pts). Ripe stonefruit with lemon tang & savoury notes. As with others, complex winemaking: natural ferment, 5% skin & portion in 600L ‘egg’. Result is weighty yet lively, layered wine contained in subtle oak frame with lees breadth.
The soils in the vineyard comprise of shale, granite and slate, which lends structure to the resulting wine. The young vines are trained “sur echalas”, a bush vine supported by a wooden vertical support; which helps to produce more concentrated fruit on the lower potential soils in these mountainous vineyard sites.
This vintage offers great aging potential with the wines showing wonderful purity of fruit and elegance. The grapes were whole bunch pressed to ensure elegant extraction. Natural fermentation took place in seasoned French oak barrels and a foudre, adding layers of complexity. The wine was aged for 10 months on the lees contributing to its freshness and richness
