Delicious, fruity and spicy wine made from the popular Spanish Variety. Soft expressions of plum and cherries, with a delicate hint of spice, and harmonious barrel integration. Top class Grenache is now synonymous with the Piekenierskloof. Will age 4 to 5 years.
The wine was bottled after 9 months barrel maturation. Natural fermentation, punch downs 4 times a day, wine kept on skins a week after fermentation. Pressed and went to old barrels for 9 months. Bottled by hand on the farm.
The 61yr old Grenache is from a single block that is on well drained, decomposed sandstone. The vines are all bush-vine and unirrigated. All farming is done organically. Yields are 3-4 tonne per hectare.
The Grenache Noir is from a single 60 year old block that is on well drained, decomposed sandstone. The bush vines are unirrigated and organically farmed. Yields are meagre at 3 to 4 tons per hectare.
From a Bordeaux shaped bottle, closed with natural cork. The label is a charming etching of a Cape Leopard, the Tier of Tierhoek. In the glass, the wine is a bloodplum colour at the heart which pales out to ruby at the edges. Interesting rustic aromas of roadside brambles and wood strawberries. The palate repeats the nose and adds pomegranate arils, crunchy watermelon, Morello cherries and the oak with its concomitant spice and vanilla. Beautifully harmonious aftertaste with an undertow of minerality and citrus oil.
